This policy outlines the measures taken by Shred to protect the privacy of its users.
Service description
Shred is service that lets users create self-destructing messages that can be transmitted via email, Slack, and other means of communication. The messages are created as unique HTTPS URLs (hereafter
referred to as "secured links") which expire after a pre-defined number of views or a pre-defined period of time. Each secured link links to the message, which is stored, encrypted, on Shred's servers.
Depending on how the user choses to transmit the secured link (e.g., Slack, email, SMS, phone, fax, instant messaging, etc), there may be a certain risk that third parties intercept the communication,
get knowledge of the communicated secured link and thus may be able to access the message. The user may chose to secure his message even further by adding an access password, which will be required
in order to view the message, after clickig the secured link.
Message Processing
The secured link is the only way to access the encrypted message stored on the server. Therefore, there is no way to recover a message if a user loses the unique secured link.
When a message expires (after the pre-defined number of views was reached, or after the pre-defined period of time has passed), it is completely removed from Shred's servers. There is absolutely
no way to recover it.
Security Measures
Shred is doing do as much as possible to protect its servers and data against unauthorized access, modification or destruction. Even if someone could manage to gain access to the database,
they would be unable to read the messages since they are encrypted.
Shred uses SSL to encrypt all network communication with its servers, in addition to encrypting the information stored in the database.
